Roy Smiles has won two Guinness Fringe Awards and was shortlisted for Best Play at the Off West End Awards in 2001. He had a writing attachment to the National Theatre in 2001. His book on comic influences Funny People: My Journey Through Comedy is also published by Oberon Books.
