The premise of the book is well known and not entirely original, but it doesn't really matter, what matters is how it is written.
It is great. Gaiman is the master of words, so expect some light wordplay and picturesque metaphors.
What I really like is the way hints to puzzles are spread throughout the story: you get minor hints first, followed by major ones and then, if you did not figure it out, you get your answer, if you did — confirmation that you are right indeed.
There are no difficult puzzles though, nothing like detective stories and the main twist is obvious to anyone who knows something of Norse mythology. It is enjoyable nevertheless. There is an awful lot of these puzzles, so you are bound to miss some, and if you did not — you get the satisfaction of being smart and attentive.
The other thing that is worth mentioning is little tidbits of philosophy in the book — again, nothing too serious, but woven in the story it tells.
And then even though the premise of the story is simple the story itself is not and just following it is pleasant enough experience.

All in all, the book is great and I recommend it to anyone old enough to deal with graphic sex and violence scenes.
There is a point about halfway through the story when it becomes a bit hard to read or possibly even dull, but it's over quick and the second half keeps a reader glued to the book till the end.
