M.J. Tjia is a PhD in literature and was nominated for the QUT Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award and received the Australian Post-Graduate Award for exceptional research potential. She is an award- winning Australian author. Her father is Chinese-Indonesian and her mother has English-Irish Heritage. Being Eurasian herself means that she has always been interested in portraying racially hybridised characters.
