After leaving school, Victoria got a well-deserved 3rd class degree in Law from Oxford. She worked first in the book trade and later as legal executive before reading English as a mature student at the University of Bristol. She graduated with first class honours, did PhD research on John Dryden's translation of Virgil's Aeneid and gave birth to her eldest daughter ten days after submitting her thesis. Drawn to Perfection is her first novel. In 2009 she won the inaugural Jane Austen short story prize.
